Autumn Festivities

With Halloween behind us and Bonfire Night tonight, we are well in the throws of Autumn here in the UK.

So with the kids in mind, what does this time of year have in store?

Well, there’s tonight, the 5th of November – Bonfire Night. A night to celebrate the failed attempt of Guy Fawkes to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London, all the way back in 1605. Remember, Remember the 5th of November. Gunpowder, treason and plot… and all that other stuff.

There will be fireworks a plenty, bonfires all over where effigies will no doubt be set alight. All of this is fun and games unless you have small children who don’t like loud noises. At that point, the fireworks are better enjoyed from a distance and most likely with a hot chocolate in hand.

Over the coming weeks, now with a 4 year old and a nearly 2 year old, we are going to be entertaining them in as many ways as possible, spending time outside and exploring nature. Searching for the biggest leaves, or different colours. We have already baked cookies, there will most likely be more of this too. The aim is to keep them away from the TV screen as much as we can. Although, recently when the little man grabbed my hand and lead me into the lounge, pointed at the TV and said “Car. Beep, beep” it was very cute.

This is one of my favourite times of the year, there’s so much change going on and so much to embrace. With Christmas around the corner and two excitable children, there is a lot to look forward to. We also need to get our thinking caps on for our first year of doing Elf on the Shelf – wish us luck!
